Looking for an AfterSell alternative? What changes your bill

2 min read

AfterSell is one of the best-known post-purchase upsell apps on Shopify, with more than a thousand reviews and a high rating. If you are looking at alternatives, it is rarely because the app doesn’t work. It is usually about the bill, and the way it changes as the store grows.

How AfterSell is priced

AfterSell charges a monthly subscription based on the number of orders your store receives. Its App Store listing shows these plans:

Monthly ordersAfterSell price
0 to 500$34.99 / month
501 to 1,000$54.99 / month
1,001 to 2,000$99.99 / month
More than 2,000Further tiers, on their full pricing table

Prices from AfterSell’s Shopify App Store listing, checked on September 11, 2026. Billed in USD, with a 30-day free trial. Check their listing for current prices.

Nothing here is hidden, and for a small store the first tier is reasonable. The question is what happens next. The count is based on your orders, not on the orders where an upsell was accepted, so a good season can move you up a tier even though your offers have not changed.

What AfterSell does well

  • One-click upsells and downsells after payment, and offers on the thank-you page.
  • Offer recommendations and A/B testing.
  • Checkout upsells for Shopify Plus stores.

If downsells, thank-you page offers or in-checkout offers bring you revenue today, those are real reasons to stay. An alternative that doesn’t do them is not a like-for-like replacement.

What a flat price changes

With a flat monthly price, the app costs the same at 300 orders and at 30,000. The revenue from upsells grows with your volume; the bill does not. That makes the decision easy to calculate: the app pays for itself as soon as your offers bring in more margin than its fixed price, and everything above that stays with you.

FlatUpsell is built on that model. It makes two kinds of offer: one on the cart page when the customer clicks Checkout, and a one-click offer after payment. You set rules by product or collection, A/B test up to three post-purchase products, and read views, acceptances and extra revenue per placement on one dashboard. It does not do downsell chains, thank-you page offers or AI recommendations.

Before you switch

  1. Look at your last three months of orders and see which tier you have been in, and how often you crossed into the next one.
  2. Write down your current offers: trigger products, offered products and discounts. That is the setup you will rebuild.
  3. List the features you actually use. If downsells or thank-you page offers carry a large share of your upsell revenue, weigh that against the savings.
  4. Choose the new app for the post-purchase page in Shopify’s checkout settings: only one app can run that page at a time.
  5. Rebuild your best offers first, run them for a few weeks, and compare like for like before deciding.

The short version

If your order volume is stable and you use AfterSell’s wider feature set, it remains a solid choice. If your store is growing and you mainly use one-click offers before and after payment, a flat price removes the one cost that rises with your success.
